FHLBank Week

July 20-24

The FHLBank System was established by Congress in 1932 based on a simple but enduring principle: financial institutions require access to reliable liquidity to remain stable and continue serving their customers. This July, the FHLBanks are celebrating 94 years of providing reliable liquidity to members to support housing finance and community investment. Throughout the week, the 11 FHLBanks are coming together to celebrate this legacy and share stories, insights, and resources that highlight the FHLBank System’s impact and continued relevance in today’s housing finance ecosystem.

How Liquidity Helps Power Communities – Tuesday, July 21

Liquidity may not always be visible, but its impact is felt in communities every day. The FHLBanks raise funds in the capital markets and use those proceeds to provide secured advances to member institutions across the country. By serving as a bridge between investors and local lenders, the FHLBanks help promote liquidity and financial stability within the banking system while enabling members to meet the credit needs of the communities they serve. This flow of funding supports mortgage lending, affordable housing, community development, and a wide range of economic activity in communities nationwide.

94th Anniversary – Wednesday, July 22

On July 22, 1932, President Herbert Hoover signed the Federal Home Loan Bank Act into law, creating a new system designed to strengthen lending institutions and support the flow of credit across the nation.

Watch how that foundation continues to shape communities today.

Ninety-four years later, the FHLBank System continues to fulfill that foundational mission. As we celebrate this milestone, we reflect on nearly a century of partnership with our members, support for local communities, and commitment to providing reliable liquidity through every economic cycle.
